Japanese JSGDF has developed various tanks and vehicles. Type 16 is the latest “tank”.
With the development of technology and changing army trend, JSGDF should consider various situations. Not only big enemy troops, but also small troops in city and island. In this situation, speed is the most important fact.
As you know, JSGDF has type 10 type 90, and type 74 tanks . This tanks have heavy armor and powerful gun, but to move, they should ride on trains or carrier for smooth moving. So they takes long time to prepare and move the field.
Type 90 is about 50t and crawler. So if it runs 70km/h, load is destroyed !!

In this situation, Type 16 was developed in 2016. It has eight wheels, 105mm gun, over 100km/h speed. And the latest shooting system. It runs itself and can use high way. The weight is about 26t.
It can high speed moving from base to city, and drops from plane. The perhaps is removing enemy first troops rapidly and earn time for main power reaching.
The 105mm gun has same power as Type 74.
High power is threat for enemy.
